audiofemme is a centralised community for posting women-centric podfic and podfic recs. posts are welcome at any time.

additionally, there's a monthly challenge to prompt podfic and recs on a specific theme. you don't have to participate in this challenge to post to the community.

there is also an annual fest for relationships between women. more info on this year's fest will be posted closer to the start date.

nb: women includes woman-aligned non-binary people and rule 63 versions of characters who may not be women in canon.

There are slight sound effects here, but I don't think they should be triggering for listeners with auditory epilepsy, and there is no dramatic reverb/echo for those with auditory processing issues. The biggest difference is in "distance" and a slight volume drop.

purimgifts (also purimgifts and purimgifts is a pan-fandom fannish exchange celebrating characters who are at least one of women, Jewish or persecuted by evil viziers. Participants exchange three short fannish works, which may be text-fic, podfic or a mixture of both; there's also a small art component.

Purimgifts is an annual exchange, celebrating the Jewish Holiday of Purim. The Holiday celebrates the cunning and resilience of a young woman, Esther, who saved her people from annihilation and became a queen. The Scroll of Esther is notable for being the only book in the Tanakh (Jewish Bible) in which God is never mentioned nor, indeed, plays any part in the plot: it's all on Esther.

Purim is a carnival Holiday; its mitzvas are to tell the tale, and make each other happy. One of the big happy-making traditions is giving one's neighbours and friends gift baskets (mishlochei manot), traditionally of sweets, alcohol, toys and cosmetics. In a fannish contest, this means a gift exchange. Purim is celebrated over a total of three days. The first, the Fast of Esther, is also the Holiday Eve; it's followed by Purim and Shushan Purim. Thus, purimgifts participants exchange three gifts revealed over those three days, with creators(and treats) revealed the day after. Gifts can be created in any fandom, but must focus on characters who are at least one of women, Jewish or persecuted by evil viziers. (We're somewhat loose on the definition of "vizier"; not so much the definition of "persecution". We also emphatically do not police who is a woman, or a Jew.)

Gifts have both an upper and a lower length limit: 300-1000 words of text or 3-10min of audio. Having both both and lower limits is another Purim thing, common when mishlochei manot are exchanged at schools or workplaces. (Historically, the practice has been used to allow poor people to celebrate without singling them out by overt charity.) purimgifts aims to preserve and foster this laid-back, inclusive atmosphere.

This is the first year of podfic being included in purimgifts. The sign-up form allows participants to choose whether to request or offer podfic, text-fic or both. (Inclusive of the option of "text-fic for some fandoms but podfic for others" or any other variation.) There's also an option to sign up as a Pod Together-style team.
